Descriptions – Age & Authenticity

We make every effort to describe each item as accurately and honestly as possible, drawing on our experience, research and the information available to us. However, determining the precise age, date, origin, maker or attribution of an antique or vintage item can sometimes be difficult without specialist examination, scientific testing or other definitive technical evidence.

Accordingly, any dates, periods, attributions, origins or other identifying information given in our descriptions should be regarded as our best assessment or opinion, rather than an absolute guarantee, unless specifically stated otherwise. We do not claim that an item has a particular date, age, maker or provenance solely on the basis of visual or stylistic assessment.

Where an item has been professionally authenticated, scientifically tested, or supported by reliable documentary evidence, we will state this in the description.

Condition

Antique and vintage items have generally had a previous life and may show signs of age, use, wear, repairs, restoration, alterations or imperfections. These characteristics are often part of the nature and appeal of older objects.

We take care to inspect our items and to disclose any significant defects or condition issues known to us, including damage, repairs, restoration, losses, cracks, chips, stains or other imperfections that may materially affect the item. However, minor imperfections, age-related wear and other characteristics may not always be individually mentioned.

Photographs form an important part of each item’s description and should be considered alongside the written description. If condition is particularly important to you, please contact us before purchasing and we will be happy to provide additional photographs or information where possible.

Photographs & Colour

We make every effort to photograph items accurately and to show their condition, details and colours as clearly as possible. However, photographs cannot reproduce an object exactly as it appears in person.

Colour and appearance may vary depending on lighting conditions, photography equipment, image processing, and the screen, monitor, device or settings used to view the images. Accordingly, slight variations between photographs and the actual item should not be regarded as a defect or misrepresentation.

Buyer Enquiries

We welcome questions before purchase. If you require clarification about an item’s age, dimensions, condition, construction, provenance, restoration or any other aspect, please contact us before purchasing. We are happy to provide any additional information or photographs that we reasonably can.

By purchasing an item, the buyer acknowledges that descriptions of age, date, attribution, origin and similar matters may involve an element of professional or informed opinion, and that photographs and descriptions cannot substitute for personal inspection or independent specialist examination.
